Happy Spotlight Sunday!

mkn coffee is an indie/alternative rock project that began in Denton, TX, led by singer-songwriter Blake Kleisinger. Since playing their first shows in the summer of 2022, mkn coffee has become a steady presence in the DFW music scene, performing more than 200 shows across the metroplex! The project has released six singles and an EP titled The Get Down; they are currently working on their first full-length album.

mkn coffee recently celebrated the release of their new song, Hero. Regarding the song, Blake describes, “Almost 5 years ago, my father suffered a heart attack at the age of 58. Thankfully, he survived. After we brought him home post-surgery, he completely blacked out and fell to the ground in my arms. We had to call paramedics because he just had open-heart surgery and couldn’t be lifted normally due to his healing ribs. After sitting him upright and asking him a few questions, the paramedics began to leave. As they were talking, I saw my dad’s eyes fade to a blank stare, all the muscles in his face tense up, and then fall into my arms again, lifeless. I yelled for my mother to stop the ambulance driving away, and sat in disbelief. Seconds felt like hours. I hated myself for how I froze up. It reminded me of how cowardly I was as a child. Praise God, my dad is now here with me alive and well. This song is the diary entry I needed to process wha happened that day. Also, it was a total full-circle moment to have my dad on-set while we filmed the music video about losing him; a really reflective moment to say the least.”
